Pantry + at Rutgers-Newark, a resource for students facing food insecurity, is partnering with Jersey Mike’s on a deal offering a free sub in exchange for a $5 donation.

From September 11 to September 15, participants can get a voucher to redeem the offer, which is limited to one voucher per person a day. Vouchers can be picked up at the pantry+ office (PRCC 226) and at student Welcome Week events, including Resource Fair. Customers can also ask for a voucher on campus at Jersey Mike’s at 52 New Street, although vouchers are limited and do not apply to online orders.

According to national statistics, more than one in three students face food insecurity.

“This partnership with pantry+ at RU-N will help us nourish minds; contributions will go towards providing students with nutrient-dense items like eggs, dairy, and fresh fruits and veggies,’’ said pantry+ Director Hend El Buri. “We believe every student deserves to focus on getting to graduation without worrying about how to pay for food.”

Rutgers University-Newark has long been at the forefront of addressing the issue of student food insecurity and has taken a comprehensive approach, opening the food pantry, organizing a care team and working with student organizations dedicated to fighting hunger on campus.

Students who return receipts to the pantry with their name and Rutgers email are eligible to win a Nintendo Switch.
