Turning Brick City into Dream City: The First Citywide Dream Starter and the Launch of the #NewarkDreamCity Campaign on Nov. 8

In Newark, more than 350 high school students and community members will participate to empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers of the world. This is a collaboration among Rutgers University-Newark, SPAA - a highly respected institution educating and preparing students to lead in the field of public service and administration – and The Future Project.

Launch of the #NewarkDreamCity Campaign

mCity Campaign is a city-wide photography and public art campaign with a mission to redefine “Brick City” into “Dream City” through the use of stark, inspirational imagery of young people declaring their dreams for themselves, their school, and their community to challenge people’s negative perception of the City of Newark.  The campaign was first started by Divine Bradley, chief dream director of The Future Project in Newark, and his team in September 2013 as they began the transformation of Malcolm X Shabazz High School into “possibility high.”

The Future Project is part of Mayor Baraka's Model Neighborhood Task Force of the South & West Wards, an initiative created by the mayor to develop an inter-department plan to advance a set of economic and quality of life strategies for the South and West wards. The Future Project is supporting the transformation process of these two wards to revitalize the areas into thriving and growing areas of opportunity.  Under this plan the city will engage residents and other stakeholders, target crime, expand access to economic opportunities, and green and beautify public spaces.
