Associate Dean of Students for Housing and Residence Life
Tim Johnson
serves as the Associate Dean of Students for Housing and Residence life at Rutgers University Newark Campus. He has spent over 20 years in service to students throughout the country. He served as a Resident Director at University of Wisconsin-Steven Point, Area Coordinator / Assistant Director of Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, and the Assistant Director for Residential Life at Temple University. In addition to his work as a housing professional, Dean Johnson is also the founding partner of Reslife.net, which now serves over 200 Universities around the world including, US, Australia, South Africa, and Singapore. Tim has stayed active over the years within our most esteemed professional organizations. He has held the role of Regional Coordinator of Southeastern PA, served as the Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers (MACUHO) president and most recently served as Program Chair for the Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHO-I) conference. Dean Johnson is currently finishing off his final year of law school at Rutgers Newark. His interests include acting in plays in his hometown.

Associate Director for Housing and Residence Life
Angie Bonilla
was born and raised in Queens, NY. She received her BA and MED from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While studying as UMASS she worked as a Resident Assistant and an Assistant Resident Director. Angie also spent some time in Los Angeles as an ACUHO-I intern for Occidental College. After graduating, she worked at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey as a Resident Director. She has worked at Rutgers-University - Newark for the past nine years in various capacities. She is now the Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life. She oversees the operations of the department and also coordinates the assignment process. Angie has been involved with various organizations such as MACUHO and ACUHO-I. Angie’s interests include reading, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

Director of Residence Life

Shigeo Iwamiya was born and raise in a bilingual/bicultural family in Tokyo, Japan. After 19 years in Japan, Shigeo moved to St. Cloud, MN, and received his BES in Leadership Development at St. Cloud State University. Shigeo was an active student leader both on the regional as well as national level during his time at SCSU. Shigeo then moved to Philadelphia, PA, to work with La Salle University, and then to Salisbury, MD to attend graduate school, where he received his MED from Salisbury University. During his time at Salisbury University, he joined the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) team as an ACUHO-I intern , and upon graduation, joined the UIC team full time, and moved to Chicago. Shigeo has joined the Rutgers- Newark team where he oversees the residence life aspect of the department, and helps out with other various department functions. Shigeo is involved in MACUHO, ACPA and NASPA. His interests include watching movies, following baseball, and spending time with friends.

Area Director for Talbott Apartments
Anthony Florendo
is the Area Director for Talbott Apartments. Anthony received his MS in Higher Education: Administration and Organizational Management from Drexel University. He received his BA in Art, concentration in Graphic Design, here at Rutgers University – Newark back in 2002. He was involved on campus as a Resident Assistant, Assistant Area Director, Orientation Workshop Leader, Scarlet Ambassador, Theater Arts Group member, and Student Government Association Senator. After graduating from Rutgers – Newark, he worked in student affairs at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Northampton Community College, and The University of the Arts. He enjoys shopping, cooking, playing games, dining out, movies and television, learning sign language, cartooning, designing, performing theater, and going to the gym. Anthony is really excited to be back on the Rutgers – Newark campus to rekindle old friendships and make new ones in the process. Have a great, successful year!

Area Director for University Square Apartments
Jennifer Decker is the Area Coordinator for University Square Apartments.  She received a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the Rutgers School of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from SUNY New Paltz, where she was an RA and TA.  As a full-time graduate student, Jennifer spent 3 years as a Hall Director and Assistant Residence Life Coordinator for Rutgers Residence Life (New Brunswick), working with first-year and upper-class students.  Jennifer is excited to be at Rutgers-Newark and strives to be a positive influence and role model for her students.  She is a member of NASPA and NASW (National Association of Social Workers) and is also a Licensed Social Worker (LSW).  In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family in Staten Island, reading, going to the beach and volunteering.

Shayla McGrady
is the Area Director of Woodward Hall. Shayla received her Master of Science degree in Human Services Administration from Buffalo State College where she also obtained her BA in Psychology. She is a member of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). In her spare time, Shayla enjoys shopping, traveling, reading and being with her close friends and family.

Academic Coordinator (Graduate Position)
Justine McDavid
is the Academic Coordinator for first year students residing in Woodward Hall. She is originally from Western Maryland.? She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, and recently received her M.A. in Criminal Justice at Rutgers-Newark. She received her B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park. Justine has been working for the Office of Housing and Residence Life since August 2006, where she started as a Resident Assistant. She enjoys dining out, beaches, baking, and watching basketball.

Housing Administrative Coordinator / Family Housing Coordinator (Graduate Position)
Crystal Lopez
is from Bloomfield, NJ. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice and recently received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Rutgers- Newark.  Crystal has been awarded the Ralph Bunche fellowship for the 2007-2008 school year.  She has been working in the Office of Housing and Residence Life since August 2004.  Crystal began working for the department as a Resident Assistant for first year students.  She then became the Assistant Area Director for Woodward Hall last year.  In her free time, Crystal enjoys cooking, dancing, and spending time with friends and family. 

Judicial Coordinator (Graduate Position)
Ken Hipp
is the Judicial Coordinator of Housing and Residence Life. He is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Global Affairs at Rutgers. Ken received his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from The University of Toledo. Prior to joining the Housing and Residence Life staff at Rutgers, he was a Resident Advisor at The University of Toledo. In his free time he enjoys playing sports, working out and being in the city with friends.

Nyha Haywood
has been a member of the Rutgers community for a number of years and has served the residents of Rutgers Newark since the summer of 2006. Nyha has served the office first as a conference assistant for two summer seasons, and currently role as a key support member of the Office of Housing and Residence Life. She is majoring in Finance and will be graduating at the end of year.
