Dear Rutgers University – Newark community members,

With the voter registration deadline in New Jersey rapidly approaching—it is Tuesday, October 13—we are writing to you jointly to urge your action to support students in registering to vote. As you may know, Rutgers-Newark’s students have won the New Jersey Ballot Bowl for two years in a row, having registered to vote in higher numbers than all their peer institutions in the state. In the spirit of encouraging full participation in our democracy—as well as in the spirit of friendly competition—we hope you will join our voter registration efforts in the following ways.

Students: Register! To be counted among students registered under the Ballot Bowl effort, you should go to this website to register. If you’re not sure if you’re registered, check here, then click here to register. If you have already registered, Pledge to Vote to find out more about upcoming elections, including how to vote safely by mail.

Faculty: Please urge the students in all of your classes to register as indicated above. If you’d like to have a member of the New Jersey Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG) do a voter registration pitch to your classes, complete this form to indicate your preference.

Staff: Please urge all of the students in your area—whether you are affiliated with an academic department, student program, or simply come into regular contact with Rutgers-Newark students—to register as indicated above.

Active participation by as many people as possible is essential for a thriving democracy. With all that our nation is experiencing right now, it is no exaggeration to say that it has never been more important in our lifetimes to strive for full participation. And let’s see if we can help Rutgers-Newark students to repeat again as Ballot Bowl Champions!

Cordially,

Nancy Cantor
