Rutgers-Newark helps you to take advantage of the full range of financial aid that may be available to you—usually some combination of grants, on-campus employment, loans and/or scholarships. We’ll help you explore your options with how-to videos, on-demand webinars, and specialized guidance.
We automatically consider all applicants for most scholarships. But these five are aimed at specific types of students and require a separate application.
The Garden State Guarantee (GSG) is New Jersey’s promise to make a college degree more accessible and affordable. By reducing out-of-pocket costs for students and families, New Jersey is limiting the amount of debt that residents must borrow to attend an in-state, public college or university. This program further builds on Governor Phil Murphy’s commitment to improving college affordability.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship was created for students who are attending a New Jersey community college and are members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
RU–N to the TOP covers the cost of in-state tuition and fees for newly admitted eligible undergraduate students from across New Jersey.
A “last-dollar” scholarship that covers room and board for HLLC students after all other grants and scholarships have been applied.
The New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship (NJ STARS) II is a continuation of NJ STARS and provides eligible NJ STARS students attending NJ community colleges with funding (up to $1,250 per semester) to transfer to a NJ four-year university to earn a bachelor’s degree. Please review the information provided by the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) for full details about NJ STARS II eligibility requirements.
This scholarship opportunity is for undocumented students and DREAMers! TheDream.US scholarships award up to $29,000 to community college transfer applicants with an associate’s degree and up to $33,000 for high school graduate applicants obtaining a bachelor’s degree. Scholarships are awarded to help cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, and transportation expenses for students who would otherwise be unable to attend college.
Scholarships are a form of gift aid and do not need to be repaid. Continuing and admitted students who submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are automatically considered for a wide range of scholarships awarded by the Office of Financial Aid. Even if you believe you will not qualify for need-based financial aid, it is still important to file the application, since some merit scholarships also have a need-based component.
