We take a comprehensive approach to your safety that starts with the Rutgers University Police Department. From active engagement with students and the community to our Rave Guardian App that keeps you connected to safety resources, and extending to research projects that involve students and faculty at our schools, we take a comprehensive, fair and effective approach.

Engaged and collaborative approach to public safety
Our commitment to safety isn’t limited to police work on campus. The School of Criminal Justice works closely with the community and is committed to public policy that improves the quality of life for Newark residents. The Newark Public Safety Collaborative and the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center are two examples of our work. We also generate meaningful and productive internships to involve Rutgers-Newark students directly with a wide variety of institutions and organizations active across the the city, county, state and nation.

We publish the annual Safety Matters report with details such as:
- Three years of on- and off-campus crime statistics
- Procedures for the reporting of criminal activities and emergencies on campus
- Policies regarding security of and access to campus facilities
- Information on law enforcement on campus
- Description of campus security, crime prevention and alcohol and drug educational programs
- Policies regarding the possession, use and sale of alcoholic beverages, and illegal drugs
- Information on campus sexual assault prevention programs and procedures to follow in the event of a sexual assault
- Where information concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained
