Rutgers University-Newark's School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) invites photographers to submit images of Essex County Area public servants with brief comments as to how those individuals are motivated to serve the public. Photographers will showcase individuals who exemplify public service in action, working in the public interest, and providing "Public Service for the Public Good."

"Public Service for the Public Good" embodies the ethical principles of the common good, service to others, and social equity. It is important because the essential components of our society are largely carried out in the public sphere: health, justice and security, arts, science, public schools and universities, etc., and applies to both government and nonprofit sectors.

Selected photographs will be featured in a special exhibit hosted by Rutgers SPAA in Fall 2016 as part of the celebration of the City of Newark’s 350th Anniversary – online in the Virtual Museum of Public Service (www.vmps.us) and in a physical exhibit at SPAA at 111 Washington Street, Newark, NJ. In addition, selected photographs will appear in a printed publication.

All students, alumni, faculty, and staff of an Essex County school, university, or educational institution are invited to participate. The contest runs from June 1 to August 31, 2016.
