Rutgers University Libraries has launched Library Mobile, a universitywide app that provides convenient access to the Libraries’ resources and services. It combines personalized content for students, such as course reading lists and account information, with general information on library hours, study room reservations, and more.

Created to be campus-specific, Library Mobile also features a chat service with a live librarian who can answer questions and assist with research.

“This new app does a really nice job of packaging our services in a way that’s student friendly,’’ said Abigail DiPaolo, executive director of administration and technology for
Rutgers University Libraries.

Library Mobile can be downloaded at libraries.rutgers.edu/app and is available for iOS and Android. Users can login with their Net ID. Over the next few months, everyone who downloads and logs into the app will automatically be entered to win Rutgers University Library prizes and gift cards..

Rutgers partnered with Ex Libris, a leading global provider of cloud-based solutions for higher education and research, to develop the app and is the first North American institution to release Library Mobile. Feedback submitted through the app helps the Libraries to improve not only the app but also the resources and services it provides.

Rutgers students beta tested the app before its launch, and their response was enthusiastic.

“The students loved Library Mobile. We used their feedback to further refine it,’’ said DiPaolo.“We think we can take this even further. We’re excited to continue partnering with Ex Libris and to hear from our students about what they like, what they don’t like, and what they’d like to see.’’
