Rutgers-Newark Wins Nationwide Competition for Engaging Voters
Rutgers-Newark was among schools recognized nationally as the Most Engaged Campus for Student College Voting from ALL IN, an organization dedicated to promoting democracy and civic engagement.
Rutgers-Newark made the list of 471 colleges and universities, including Rutgers-New Brunswick and Rutgers Camden.
The Most Engaged Campus honors are awarded to higher education institutions that are making efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and college student voting.
Rutgers-Newark also won theNew Jersey College Ballot Bowl this year, a statewide non-partisan voter registration and engagement competition led by and for students. It was the third time in a row RU-N won the competition.
Student volunteers registered a total of 311 voters and gathered 3070 pledges to vote, according to Isnard Mir-Merced, a program coordinator for community engagement with the Office of Student Life and Leadership, which led the effort.
RU-N students also won in the Ballot Bowl’s Community Engage category for encouraging off-campus voters to register or pledge.
