Rutgers-Newark pantry+ fights food insecurity on campus with help from students like Yolenni Torres, who is earning her masters degree from the School of Public Affairs and Administration.

Since she joined the pantry+ team in August of 2022, Yolenni has initiated a bi-annual food drive in collaboration with student organizations. She has hosted three food drives for which 700 boxes of cereal and over 4,200 cans were collected.

“It gives me a profound sense of fulfillment, happiness and accomplishment doing the drives because of the planning and collaborative effort between everyone,’’ she said. “I feel like it has helped the campus community by creating a friendly environment for organizations to unite only only with each other but with their members and the pantry. It has also strengthened relationships between student orgs and the pantry.”
