Welcome to the new and expanded Rutgers University in Newark.
July 1 was the beginning of a new Rutgers that combines RU with most units of the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Rutgers’ presence in Newark has now grown to include, at both Rutgers-Newark and the new Rutgers Health Sciences campus at Newark, a total of:
- 15,389 students, including 4,345 R-N graduate students and 3,241 graduate students at RHS-Newark
- 1275 Full-time faculty (R-N Full-time faculty: 585 – RHS-Newark: 690)
- 49 buildings on 103 acres
Long before the integration, our two institutions had a productive history of joint partnerships, ranging from numerous research collaborations among R-N and UMDNJ faculty, to joint academic programs offering degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate level, in disciplines ranging from urban systems to allied health technologies. The “new” Rutgers in Newark offers the promise of expanded opportunities for such collaborations, as well as sharing of facilities and working together to serve the people of the state. The two nursing schools in Newark are already teaming up to improve urban health care.
On the Rutgers-Newark campus you’ll find the Newark College of Arts and Sciences and University College, the College of Nursing, the Graduate School-Newark, the School of Criminal Justice, Rutgers School of Law—Newark, Rutgers Business School—Newark and New Brunswick, and the School of Public Affairs and Administration.
The Rutgers Health Sciences at Newark houses seven schools: Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, New Jersey Medical School, School of Nursing, Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, School of Health Related Professions, School of Public Health, and University Behavioral Health Care.
