Traveling Abroad to Learn and Help Others
Rutgers-Newark's Office of Global Initiatives and Experiential Learning programs offer undergraduate students the opportunity to travel the world, advancing efforts involving education, public health and sustainability. Students have traveled to the woods of New Hampshire, archeological sites in Italy, and towns in Tanzania and India. Over spring break, a group of students flew to Puerto Rico as part of the International Leadership Exchange program to deliver "solar suitcases,'' which harness solar energy to provide power and light. Pictured above are students who went to Puerto Rico to help in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The trip became a documentary, "Be the Light," hosted by Angie Martinez, who accompanied them on the trip.
